Learn to Earn City of Cape Town Training Project
In June 2012 Learn to Earn entered into a partnership with the City of Cape Town's (CoCT) Economic and Human Development Department. From September 2012 till August 2015 LtE implemented a 3-Phase Skills Training Programme within 6 Sub-Councils across the peninsula.
Each phase of the programme was aimed at increasing the market related skills of unemployed residents that allowed them access to available employment opportunities in their local community and surrounding areas. The end goal of the programme was to:
- create job readiness
- increase the employability of participants
- link programme graduates to potential employment and
- cultivate an environment for successful entrepreneurship
The programme focus was in line with Learn to Earn's motto of providing a hand up through capacity building rather than a hand out.
The first phase was to develop each participant holistically through rebuilding dignity and self-esteem, laying the foundation for a greater level of participation and commitment to future opportunities. LtE did this by providing Life and Business Skills training before participants are selected for the second phase.
Phase two provided capacity building in a core economic focus area that contributed towards and enabled participants to become economically active.
The third phase focusd on a limited number of participants who demonstrated entrepreneurial ability and activity. Participants were mentored on a one-on-on basis and given an opportunity to access shared business services reflecting LtE's Enterprise Enabling Environment programme (E³ programme).
